“THEY CANNOT TRACK AS WELL AS BLOODHOUNDS OR WORK SHEEP AS SUPERBLY AS BORDER COLLIES OR GUARD AS AGGRESSIVELY AS SOME DOBERMANS BUT ON ALL-ROUND MERIT THERE IS NO EQUAL TO A WELL-TRAINED GERMAN SHEPHERD.” ~ MALCOLM B. WILLIS
HEALTH
Healthy dogs are my first and foremost breeding goal. To achieve this, I rigorously health test any and all dogs that are intended to be a part of my breeding program. The testing that I personally choose to perform on all of my breeding dogs is: hips/elbows, DM (Degenerative Myelopathy), MDR1, and Pituitary Dwarfism. These are the most important ones that I feel are essential for a breeding dog to have. However, I go above and beyond those tests and have full Embark panels done. As more and more tests are developed for the German Shepherd breed, I will always be adding more health testing for our breeding dogs.

TEMPERAMENT
Breeding dogs that have stable temperament and solid nerves is very important in producing excellent German Shepherd Dogs. There is a common myth that "it's all in how you raise them"--that isn't totally true. It's estimated that 20-60% of temperament is determined by genetics. This is why I find it so important to breed dogs that only fit the breed standard for temperament and can pass the best of temperament tests. Of course, temperament and personality can be affected by the environment and training (or lack thereof). My goal is to produce the best genetically sound "head start" as possible; a combination of excellent genetics and proper socialization with training will give you the best end result.

WORKING ABILITY
German Shepherd Dogs should be working dogs, first and foremost. The original objective in creating the breed was to create a versatile working dog capable of herding, protection, and general service. Unfortunately, today we see far too many dogs are from "pet lines", or watered down versions of the breed. These dogs were bred without care or selection simply because they were great pets or a pretty color.
I currently train for several different working venues, the main one being Working Dogs of America (WDA). I also train and prepare for sports such as Protection Sports Association (PSA) and I am considering doing Search and Rescue, as well. When you get a Pekelny Pes dog, you can rest assured that you are getting a puppy from parents that are versatile, well rounded examples of the breed.

STRUCTURE
Proper structure for the German Shepherd is disagreed upon by experts and poorly understood by the general public. I believe that longevity is the reason to emphasize structure. I seek to breed dogs that can work well and for a long period of time without breaking down or getting injured, and proper structure is the best way to ensure that. It is my goal to also begin conformation showing more and to ensure that all of my dogs have a proper conformation rating or IABCA/UKC championship. This is something that I will be working toward starting in 2024!
