My Story
Hi! My name is Kristin Wilkerson and I have been involved with German Shepherds for the last 13+ years. Although, I had grown up with my grandfather breeding German Shepherds my entire life, I had never owned one myself until around 13 years ago. The first German Shepherd that I had own in my adult life was a massive, sable male named Zach. He wasn't anything special, just a dog that I had bought from Craigslist with no registration. He was a great dog and really instilled my love for the breed. He was intelligent, loyal and protective. He was everything that I had ever wanted in a dog. But, unfortunately about 3 years after I bought Zach, he had developed severe arthritis due to extremely bad hip dysplasia. I tried treating it with anti-inflammatory medications and exercise/diet with my vet, but nothing worked. So, unfortunately the decision was made with my vet and I that Zach was not a good candidate for surgery and the humane decision that he was to be euthanized to end his suffering and pain. And it was in that moment, I decided and vowed to do my part in improving the breed and doing everything that I can to ensure that no family had to deal with that pain ever again.
My next dog was my foundation breeding female, Djanga. She was an incredible dog. She was everything that I was looking for. Excellent structure, the absolute best temperament, stable nerve strength, and great working drives. Over the years, she produced some AMAZING dogs for me and the wonderful families that ended up with her puppies. She proved herself to have great genetics and even 3 generations from her, her grandpups and great grandpups are still having great OFA hips and elbows! She also passed down her wonderful, loving temperament as well.
It hasn't been an easy journey over the years. I have experienced multiple losses and have had to wash several dogs for failing health testing or not having the correct temperament that I was looking for. I have become extremely picky with my breeding dogs and I am still building to make a better program for myself, so that I can continue to produce amazing puppies for years to come.
